Hi. My name is Ann MacMahon In September 1997 I was diagnosed with primary liver cancer, hepato cellular carcinoma stage four. Prognosis was poor. I had surgery, a liver tri-section by Robert Goldstein, M.D. at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas followed by 5 months of adriamycin. Prognosis was still not encouraging due to the blood supply to the tumor. Recurrence was anticipated and prognosis was negative with recurrence. I immediately began studying alternative therapies and built my own regime of supplements based on what reasearch I did on my own. I also used colon cleansing, exercise and nutritional therapies ( fresh veggie juices and fruit juices and 2-3 liters of water daily) I learned about and utilized visualization techniques, adequate sleep, and relaxation. I also consulted a naturopathic physican in Washington state who managed to convey to me there were tools with which to fight cancer and assist the body in it's efforts to heal. His positive demeanor was realistic but very reassuring that my body wanted to heal and there were plenty of reasons to believe I could beat the odds. In one year I experienced a recurrence to my lung which surprisingly turned out to be less agressive than my original cancer and ended up being one small tumor with "no friends". This tumor was removed through surgery with no additional treatments. My cancer was monitored though Alpha feto protein tumor marker, with CT scans, PET scans , bone scans, and chest x-rays if marker was elevated.
After my recurrence, I learned about Block Medical Center in Evanston, Illinois. At this time, I went to them for help with the alternative therapies to prevent another recurrence. I am vegan at this point and continue to take nutritional supplements and eat a low fat diet. I will continue to take nutritional supplements for the rest of my life. I also made some vital changes in my life to reduce stress. I have plenty of medical documentation that I am free of cancer, in spite of the very low survival rate of primary liver cancer.
I answered these questions very quickly and will be glad to clarify further if needed.
