There was report of Russian experiments in mice mentioned in the Cancer Control Convention that fruit and vegetable diet starved the
cancer cells to death. This is very interesting because I have always thought that the key to cancer cure can be found in
fruits and vegetables, and that the vitamin yet to be discovered that can prevent cancer disease is hidden in the green
produce. I have not thought of starving the cancer cells with fruits and vegetables. Gerson diet, Macrobiotic diet,
metabolic typing diet, wheatgrass diet, grape diet, and so many other vegetarian diets all have testimonials of cancer
cure, yet their allowable types of fruits and vegetables in the diet have many variations, sometimes opposing one another.
One of the plausible explanations may be this starvation of cancer cells with a diet of fruits and vegetables, in which
the major foods for the cancer cells, such as proteins and fats, are absent or minimal. It seems that the fats and
proteins are low in fruits and vegetables, and these two are minimized or prohibited in Gerson diet during
the intensive care. May be the hypothesis of cancer starvation by fruits
and vegetables is the main reason for the high survival rate in Gerson Therapy. Although
sugars, whether natural or refined, probably enhance cancer cell growth, but if there is
not enough proteins and fats, cancer cells may not have enough foods to sustain the growth.
The grape diet and the carrot-apple juice diets that had anecdotal testimonials from the
survivors were both high in natural sugars but low in proteins and fats. Fruit and vegetable diet may
actually serve triple functions: (1) eliminating cancer cells with the phytochemicals that are abundant in
fruits and vegetables, (2) providing normal cells with proper nutrition, (3) starving cancer cells
by abstaining proteins and fats. Experiments on starving cancer cells in animals with fruits and
vegetables are easy to perform. I wonder why there are not many animal experiments verifying the use of
fruit and vegetable diet to cure cancer. Whatever is the hypothesis or theory, the important thing is
that fruit and vegetable diet works. We can't argue with success.
Here is a testimonial of a cancer victor
who won the war against cancer by a diet she invented herself of
fruits and vegetables only. Before Barbara Charis found her
perfect fruit and vegetable diet, she had arthritis, colds, constipation, mental problems, migraines, polio, sore
throat, ulcer, obesity, three unnatural difficult childbirth, and of course, cancer.
She overcame all these illnesses by simply following her diet. At the age of 70 in
March, 2004, as shown in the picture, she completed the Los Angeles Marathon and won
a Finisher's Medal. She wrote and published the book Sharing From The Heart, A 33-Year
Search For The Truth in 1995 (the book can be ordered from Charis Holistic Center,
6227 Morse Avenue #304, North Hollywood, CA 91606, Tel 818-506-8768, the cost is $25)
Following is an example of her diet on page 42 of the book:
How do I eat during the day? In the summer months, I start out the morning with a
pineapple, which could run from 21 to 24 ounces of fresh fruit. When I feel hungry,
after two to three hours, I will have 16 ounces of peaches. In another couple hours,
I might have a pound of bananas. In the afternoon, I might have a 16 ounce dish of
Full Sliced Pippin Applesauce with a teaspoon of spirulina in it. I have about four
fruit meals during the day...I eat whatever fruit is in season.
At dinner, I will prepare anywhere from 28 to 35 ounces of vegetables, which will cook
down to 25 to 32 ounces of food. I may eat three to six vegetables, but I am careful
to combine them correctly. I would not eat yam with corn; or yam with banana squash.
I would have yam with two or three green vegetables, or perhaps two squashes, with
three green vegetables. I would put bananas and yellow crookneck squash with several
green vegetables.
All my vegetables will fit in my dutch oven in a large steamer, which sits inside of it.
I steam all the hard vegetables, such as, carrots, beets, yams, green beans, artichoke
and squashes for 25 minutes. The greens, such as beet and spinach, only take about 3 to
4 minutes.
I weigh all my foods. The fruit only has to be weighed once, but I weigh vegetables twice:
before and after they are cooked. I do this for two reasons. I want to make sure that
I am getting enough water on a daily basis and enough nutrients for my body. This keeps
the body and the brain functioning well. It is wonderful to eat plenty and never feel
hungry.
In nearly two years on this program, I haven't had one sick day. It has changed my body,
my mental attitude and my spiritual attitude, too. The Creator is first and foremost
in my life. I don't put one food in my mouth without asking guidance and His Blessing. It
has made a vast difference. I feel better at sixty, than I did as a teenager. During
my teens I constantly fought weight. I fluctuated between 140 and 150 pounds. Today
I have found that it's easy to stay between 110 and 115 pounds...eating as much as I want!
Lastest Addition from Barbara Charis (September 10, 2004)
Later on, in the morning I enjoy a heavenly concoction of raw figs, one green apple and one medium banana (approx. l #). I chop it up in a bowl and it takes me at least 30 minutes to eat. People should be made aware that chewing is very important -- and meals should never be rushed.
When I feel hungry again, I use another 14 oz of herb tea -- and take my Spirulina with it; also, take Sea Silver and Dong Quai liquid (Nature's Answer).
My next meal will be more fruit. Sometimes, I will put 12-16 oz of watermelon in the blender and add 4 oz of Celestial Seasonings Herb Tea -- Raspberry Ice. It is a very refreshing drink.
Right now I am cutting back on fruit, because it is very easy for me to gain weight eating fruit. I am trying to drink more liquid; so as to cut down on calories. I don't use sugar. I am using Kal Stevia for a sweetener in my herb tea.
Dinner: I am eating 20 -24 oz of raw vegetables; a third of it is greens, like spinach, beet greens, mustard greens, collard greens or turnip greens. I usually add a tomato and a little red onion to the greens. In addition, I like tabouli (parsley, tomato mixture). I put this into my salad and mix it up well. I make my own dressing from scratch. I don't use any commercial products.
I may occasionally have some eggs that I get at Trader Joes. I would not buy them from the regular markets. I occasionally have been buying grass fed lamb chops from New Zealand.
I had been a total vegetarian for about 13 years, but now I occasionally have the above. I don't have these foods on a daily basis, but perhaps once a week for the lamb. The eggs about twice a week, I have two.
I found something very interesting. My cholesterol went up during a year that I had no eggs whatsoever. It went down, after I started eating some eggs.
Everybody is totally different. What is good for me, may not be good for you. No two siblings are alike; they could have inherited their genes from one side of the family or the other.
I have been doing guided consultations, since 1984. I have found that there are very few people who can handle dairy. It is not perfect for human beings. It is tolerable for only a small percentage; those whose ancestors have used it for thousands of years.
It is the same with grains. Rice is Perfect or Neutral for people whose ancestors have used it for over a thousand years. It takes time for the human body to adapt to any foods; and rice has been in the Caucasian diet for only 200 years; and for many a far shorter period of time than that.
Wheat, barley, oats and rye are highly allergenic for many. The first time I tried wheat grass I got nauseous. I found out that I was allergic to wheat in any form. I try to avoid it. I may occasionally have a piece of sour dough, but not on a regular basis. I gain weight very easily and grains are the culprit. This should tell people that the grains are not their perfect food. If people ate their perfect foods, they would have no weight problems.
I didn't drink too much water for years. Didn't have any problem, because I was eating so many fruits and vegetables, which contain 75 - 94% water. Now, since I am trying to curtail my appetite and drop some of the weight that I put on this fruit season, I am drinking more herb teas. I only use Celestial Seasonings Tea. I ask the Creator for guidance in everything I do -- and have been guided to stay with their teas, but not all their teas. Some are not for me. I have not been guided to drink green or black teas. I stick with peppermint, red zinger, etc. I just started using this Raspberry Ice. I had been guided to avoid any berrries that had those little seeds on them. This is the reason I do not eat raspberries, black berries or boysenberries. I eat blueberries and strawberries. Many people are allergic to berries and don't even know it.
For 20 years of doing these consultations, I discovered that many of the foods, which people think are "Good" -- actually are destroying their bodies. People have no idea that the wrong foods can be so deadly. They break down the Immune System and the glands.
I looked at Gerson's Foods -- she is right about the nuts, seeds and avocado -- too much fat. She calls her food listings: Desireable; Occasionally permitted; Prohibited. I have been giving people foods listed as: Perfect; Neutral (to be used occasionally); and Negative: Do not use. I try to draw a comparison to the battery in an automobile. Perfect keeps it running smoothly; Neutral: doesn't do it any good; but does no harm. Negative: Drains it.
It would be wonderful, if people knew how important it is to eat right. I have lost people that I loved dearly -- and prayed that one day I would be able to help others I loved -- stay healthy.
Losing people you love makes you realize what is most important. I have cried for 50 years for my grandfather. He didn't need to go so early. His diet deteriorated him. He ate too many grains.
I am planning on doing another little newsletter tomorrow. I have so much info that I want people to know. I am hoping that people will share it with others that they care about. I pray that all of us working together will totally change things about for the betterment of humanity.
